Legal
Terms of Service
Last updated: October 18, 2026
These terms govern your use of JunkScout (the “Platform”), operated by [legal business name] (“JunkScout”, “we”, “us”). By using the Platform you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy, Review Policy and Refund Policy. Haulers also agree to the Hauler Agreement, which takes priority over these terms for hauler matters if the two conflict.
Ownership disclosure: JunkScout is owned by the team behind SJ Junk Removal, which may appear as a listed hauler with no special treatment in rankings.
1. What JunkScout does
JunkScout is a marketplace. We give customers automated estimates and introduce them to independent junk removal businesses (“haulers”). Haulers are not our employees or agents. Any contract for junk removal is between the customer and the hauler, and we are not a party to it.
2. Accounts
- You must be at least the age of majority in your province or territory to create an account.
- Keep your login details secure. You are responsible for activity on your account.
- Give accurate information and keep it up to date.
3. Estimates
Estimates are generated automatically from your photos and description. They are non-binding ranges in Canadian dollars. They are not quotes. The final price is set by the hauler and may change based on the actual volume, weight, access or type of items, including hazardous or special-disposal items. Always confirm the price with your hauler before work begins.
4. Customers
- Only submit photos you have the right to share, and avoid capturing other people where possible.
- Disclose hazardous materials (for example paint, propane, chemicals or asbestos) and access conditions honestly.
- Payment for the job is made directly to the hauler unless we tell you otherwise.
- You must verify your phone number with a one-time text code before your job is sent to any hauler. You still get your estimate without verifying.
- Each job can be sent to a maximum of 3 haulers.
- At launch we do not serve addresses in Quebec. You can join the waitlist and we'll email you when we do.
- If no hauler covers your address yet, we keep your request and estimate and email you when one joins.
- If something goes wrong with a hauler, use “Report a problem” on their profile or your request. Our team reviews every report and emails both sides when it's resolved.
5. Haulers
- You must hold and maintain valid commercial liability insurance, any required business licence, and workers' compensation coverage (WSIB, WorkSafeBC, CNESST or your province's equivalent) where applicable.
- You must dispose of materials lawfully, following municipal, provincial and federal rules.
- You are responsible for your own quotes, work, staff, vehicles, taxes and customer relationships.
- We may review, approve, reject, suspend or remove listings, including when documents expire or complaints arise.
- The full rules for haulers, including the free trial, lead guarantee, seasonal pause, strikes and review rules, are in the Hauler Agreement.
6. Subscriptions
Hauler listings require a monthly or annual subscription, which starts with a 30-day free trial (a card is required at sign-up and the first charge happens after 30 days). There are no contracts and no per-lead fees. Subscriptions are billed in advance in CAD plus applicable GST/HST, QST or PST through our payment processor. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel any time, and cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Plan changes are prorated and charged when made. If a payment fails, your listing stays visible for a grace period (currently 7 days), then is hidden until the balance is paid. Featured placement is an optional monthly add-on, limited to three haulers per service area, and ends at the end of the paid month when cancelled. Fees already paid are non-refundable except where required by law; see the Refund Policy. A subscription does not guarantee any number of jobs, but the lead guarantee in the Hauler Agreement credits a month when a hauler receives fewer leads than the stated minimum. Listings are paused automatically if proof of liability insurance expires.
7. Rankings
Haulers are ranked using factors such as their verification trust score, Google and JunkScout reviews, response time, win rate, distance from the job, availability on the requested date and equipment capacity. Featured placement is a paid, time-limited listing shown in a separate section labelled “Sponsored”, with at most three per job; it does not change a hauler's position in the ranked list. Every hauler, including any business affiliated with JunkScout, is ranked by the same rules.
8. Reviews
Only customers who hired a hauler through the Platform, and confirmed the job happened, can review that hauler, through a one-time secure link. Reviews must be honest. We screen reviews automatically and may hold or remove reviews that break the Review Policy (for example threats, personal information or spam). We never remove a review just because it is negative. Haulers may not offer discounts, gifts or any other incentive for reviews.
9. Acceptable use
Don't misuse the Platform. That includes scraping, spamming, impersonating others, uploading unlawful content, contacting users for unrelated purposes or trying to get around our security.
10. Disclaimers and liability
The Platform is provided “as is”. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for the acts or omissions of haulers or customers, for property damage or loss arising from a job, or for indirect or consequential losses. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Platform is limited to the greater of $100 CAD or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that cannot be waived.
11. Indemnity
Haulers agree to indemnify JunkScout against claims arising from their services, their staff or their breach of these terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of [New Brunswick] and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Consumers may also have the benefit of the laws of their own province or territory.
13. Changes
We may update these terms. We will post changes here and notify account holders of material changes. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept them.
